Pourover - UFO Method
UFO Pour Over Method
Total Time: 3 minutes
- Grind Fresh. Fresh beans oxidize and age very quickly once ground. Consistency of grind is medium to medium-fine
- Wet the Filter. Use a small amount of water to soak the paper filter to pull out any residue or micro particles. Dispose of this water.
- 1/17 Ratio. Use 1 part coffee to 17 parts water weight ratio
- Examples:
- 21g coffee (3 tbs) / 357g (12.5 oz)
- 42g coffee (6tbs) / 700g water (24.5oz)
- For slightly lighter brew use a 1/20 ratio. Experiment with it.
- Saturate Grounds
- Cover grounds with 205°-ish water.
- Stir once with a small spoon and wait 15 seconds letting the hot gas rise through.
- Notice the grounds bubble as they are degassing. This bubbly moment is called the bloom.
- As you add water every 10-15 seconds, pour over the dark spots instead of the light. This ensures that you're evenly distributing the water into the grounds
- Close to the end, heat up the mug with the remaining water, preparing it to receive a perfectly brewed pour over cup.
